First impressions count — fitting square pegs into round holes

Bernard Tomic appeal verdict delivered

Tennis has had enough of Bernard Tomic.

That’s been made blatantly obvious after the Aussie brat’s appeal against being fined $81,000 for a 58-minute first round Wimbledon capitulation was met with the most savage of responses.

Hawaii Seeks Peaceful End to Telescope Protests

Officials in Hawaii said Friday that they will not call up additional National Guard troops or use force on peaceful telescope protesters blocking access to the state’s highest peak.

Gov. David Ige said that his priority is to keep everyone in the community safe, including the activists at the base of Mauna Kea. The 80 guard members on the Big Island since the start of the protests will remain, state officials said.

“We will not be utilizing tear gas, as some of the rumors have been (saying),” Ige said. “We are looking for the best way forward without hurting anyone.”

That’s right, Iriving is apparently a massive fan of Spongebob Squarepants, and his latest collaboration with Nike is set to celebrate the obsession. The sneaker giant is planning an entire line of Kyrie sneakers that are inspired by the denizens of Bikini Bottom, and no character has been left out of the mix.

After endless conflicts, an entrepreneurial ecosystem blooms in Iraq

By Ravie Lakshmanan

You’ll have to cut Iraq some slack for being late to the tech startup party. Since at least the early 2000s, the country was the embodiment of civil war, violence, and protracted armed conflicts.

But it all changed this April, when Iraq hosted its first ever nationwide hackathon.

The aim was to bring together aspiring entrepreneurs, and solve some of the pressing issues faced by the country through innovation.

How Smart Home Technology Affects Caring for Aging Parents

Aging homeowners whose health needs may require sudden medical attention are a major driver in the use of medical alert systems. Increasingly, smart home technology — tech that allows users to control home appliances via their smartphone or computer — has been integrating medical alert systems, allowing an individual to do everything from adjust their thermostats to call 911 from the palm of their hand.
