Lightning storm sends Cal-Washington football game into lengthy delay

SEATTLE — Cal’s football game at Washington entered a weather delay at 7:51 p.m. Saturday because of a lightning storm in the Seattle area, and resumed 2 1/2 hours later.
Shortly after the teams and fans exited to seek shelter the power also went out briefly at Husky Stadium. Transportation services on the Metro Husky Shuttle Buses from the stadium also were suspended during the storm.
Officials said the game could not be restarted until there was no lightning reported within eight miles of the stadium for a period of 30 consecutive minutes.
The game was scoreless and each team had just one possession when the action was abruptly halted with 9:46 left in the first quarter.
